I made this for my husband when we first started dating and now it's a fall tradition! I love making it, we all love eating it, and it's just one of those special things that all of us look forward to every year.
I used Fuji apples because they're sweet and don't turn to mush after baking. Granny Smith apples also work great or a combination of the two. The nice part about a recipe like this is that there's room to play until you get the flavor you want.
Ingredients
7-8 Fuji apples, peeled and sliced
Pillsbury refrigerated pie crust--box of 2
3/4 c. butter
4 1/2 Tbsp flour
1/3 c. water
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. packed brown sugar
Directions
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Pre-measure ingredients.
2. Line pie plate with crust. Peel and slice apples and place in the pie plate.
3. Melt butter in saucepan over low-med heat. Stir in flour to form a foamy paste.
4. Add water, sugars and cinnamon and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 2 minutes.
5. Pour mix over apples.
6. Cover with {lattice top} then wrap crust with foil.
7. Bake for 15 minutes at 425 degrees. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and continue baking for 35-45 minutes. Remove foil after 25 minutes.
Top with whipped topping or vanilla ice cream. Check out {this post} to find out how to create a lattice crust.

ReplyDeletenot only beautiful, but I bet delicious too!
ReplyDeleteThis is THE BEST way to make apple pie! I make mine this way, the only difference is that I put the lattice crust on, then pour the syrup into the pie, that way the crust gets some of that carmel-y goodness on it as well. :)
