What a difference a little garland makes! It was cheap and simple to make but I will warn you, you're going to need an afternoon to do this project. Cutting the strips took about 1 hour and tying them on to the lights took about 3 hours. Granted, I was interrupted (a lot) but you get the picture. In the end, I love the way it turned out and will definitely do this again for other holidays.
Supplies
14 ft. string of orange lights ($3.50 at Big Lots)
54 x 108 in vinyl tablecloths ($.98 each at Walmart)
Scissors
Total investment: $6.50
Directions
1. Cut each tablecloth into strips, about the size of a ruler.
2. Now for the fun part. Tie each strip to the string of lights.
3. Hang outside and enjoy!

How stinking cute is that! And very frugal too! (I try not to use that nasty cheap word) LOL! Pinning this one!

Vanessa
Definitely Vanessa:)
DeleteKatie, this is a very cute and clever idea! Your right, a great way to color coordinate a holiday for outdoor fun. I have a porch similar to yours ;-) So I'm adding to my weekend project list, plus it's plastic and here in GA I won't cry when it gets all messed up from the bugs and spider webs.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!
JoAnn
I hear ya JoAnn! The spiders and bugs are awful here right now. And if a thunderstorm comes through and blows it away (which you know, could happen), I'm only out $6. How funny that we have similar porches:)
DeleteVery fun, very cute! I think what I like best is that it is a lighted project for a "holiday" where the focus is on the night and darkness. And that it looks good in the daylight. And that it is the type of project which can be adapted to any them, season or holiday. Can't you just picture pastels at Easter, or R, W, &B for patriotic days: Patriots' Day (we celebrate in New England in April, for Paul Revere's ride and the American Revolution),Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Patriot Day (9/11), and Veteran's Day?
ReplyDeleteGreat blog, great crafty and decorating ideas!
Thanks so much Wendy! I definitely plan on making these for other holidays too. For $6.50, why not? :)

ReplyDeleteQuick question...how long did you make the strips...the instructions say the size of a ruler, is that both length and width? Sorry to be so ocd, but I always ask, lol!
Yep, length and width of a ruler. Don't worry, I ask the exact same things. I'm so glad that you like it, thanks for stopping by!

DeleteThis is great solution. Cheap, and yet, so effective. I really like that you pay lot of attention to Halloween. In my country we don`t have that situation, and i must wait only for the Christmas to realize all the creative ideas :)

ReplyDeleteJudy
Thank you so much Judy! We usually get a lot of rain in the fall so fabric would have been a disaster. Glad you like it:)
