DIY Framed 2013 Sign

My January Decorations were in desperate need of something New Years-ish. After searching and searching, I couldn't find the 2013 sign that I was looking for so, of course, I decided to make my own.

Making a framed 2013 sign is a simple project. If you have scrapbooking paper, a frame and stickers, you can make one of your own. I found all of my supplies at Michael's and spent a whopping $10 on the whole thing. Here's what you need:

Adhesive scrapbooking letters $3
Light blue vellum scrapbooking paper  $1
Patterned scrapbooking paper  $1
Picture frame  $5
Scissors (already had)
Total cost: $10

1. Cut paper to fit the frame.

2. Center stickers on the vellum and press firmly.

3. Place vellum against the glass, then place the patterned paper behind it.

Close the frame and display!

I'm linking up at some of these great parties and Savvy Southern Style, Debbiedoos, Between Naps on the Porch and Shabby Creek Cottage.

  1. Katie, this is such a pretty sign and goes perfectly with your vignette. As I was reading your post, I realized that I had just bought some of that same light blue vellum at Michael's the other day. It never occurred to me to layer it over another patterned paper to get a different look. Duh! Very creative!

  2. Thank you so much Debbie! It was so funny, I had the vellum laying on top of the patterned paper in my cart and that's when it hit me to use it. Otherwise, it would have never dawned on me either. Haha!

  3. What a great idea! This is a really neat way to announce the new year within your home.

  4. this is such a cute idea!! thanks for sharing :)

  5. This turned out beautiful Katie!! I love the use of vellum paper too, it looks gorgeous. I would love for you to link this up at the Pretty Things link party at twelveOeight!

    xoxo, Tanya

  7. love this...Thanks for stopping by so I could find your blog!

  8. Love that sign and going to make it. Don't have glass for frames but guess that'll have to do as I have everything else. Just need to paint the frames and get it going. I also printed out some new years free subway art off a blog so will frame them both and hang them up. Liking that more all the time.
I'll have to look up where Mayfield, KY is. We used to live north of Bowling Green before we moved to Grand Junction, CO area 8 1/2 yrs. ago. I still miss our place there, out in country. Was so pretty but weather there hard on me, I have asthma, arthritis and allergies. It's very expensive to live here in CO.
Really glad I found your blog, will be visiting very often. Look forward to seeing your new year projects.

  9. Nice frame. Thanks for your comment on my blog.

I'm having a GOOGLE + Social hop. I'd love for you to hop on over, grab a button and link up your Google +. If you don't have Google + it's ok, come link up your blog or favorite post.

I'm also looking for Pinterest Pinners to feature every week beginning in January. If you are on Pinterest and are interested in being featured come link up! Who knows you might meet some other great pinners and gain a few great ideas.

  12. This is a great idea! Our house is in need of some decoration because it has been striped of its holiday spirit. I think I'll make this using a bigger frame though! Hopefully the husband approved of the idea. If not, I'll still make it ;)

Found you on the CraftOManiac link up and I'm now following!
